Materials containing asbestos are classified as "non friable", or "strongly attached", when they do not represent a risk of liberating spontaneously fibres in the air, under effects of simple shocks, vibrations or air movements. But, under mechanical attacks/effects, during withdrawal or evacuation procedures, airborne fibres are expected. Then there is a risk of exposure for the workers and a risk of long lasting contamination of the working site. The risk to exposure must be controlled.
The enterprises must adopt working methods that reduce the production of fibres. In certain cases the use of a dynamic confinement of the work zone is essential.
In France, the withdrawal or wrapping of materials and products containing non friable asbestos, located inside the buildings, request a certified qualification training certificate.
